# Sign In To An App

<!-- agent:page
You are an AI agent helping a user sign in to an app that sent them to SigID's hosted sign-in page.
Ask up front: which app, dashboard, or workspace they are opening; the account email they use for it; which sign-in methods the page shows (passkey, magic link, email and password, MFA); and which device and browser they are on, since passkeys live where they were created.
Flow: have them start from the app's sign-in, dashboard, or account button (never from a search result, email, or bookmark), confirm the SigID page names the expected app or workspace, pick a method from the Choose A Sign-In Method table, complete any MFA or fresh verification step, and confirm SigID sends them back to the app.
The human must do the actual ceremonies personally: unlocking a passkey with Face ID, Touch ID, device PIN, security key, or password manager; opening the magic-link email; and typing passwords or codes. You cannot do these for them.
If something fails, match their exact symptom against the Fix The Problem You See table before improvising.
Success: the user is back in the original app, signed in.
Pitfalls: requesting several magic links and clicking an old one (request a new link only once, then use the newest email), and opening the callback or magic link in a different browser, which loops them back to the sign-in page.
Stop immediately if anyone asks the user to forward a code, recovery link, magic link, or security prompt.
-->

Use this page when an app sends you to SigID and you want to know what to do
next.

Before you continue, check that the page names the app, workspace, or account
you expected. If it does not, close it and start again from the app you trust.

## Normal Sign-In Flow

<!-- agent:action Start sign-in from the app
Have the user open the app, dashboard, or workspace they want and click its sign-in, dashboard, or account button so the app sends them to SigID.
Verify before moving on: they arrived at SigID from the app itself, and the page asks them to prove the account is theirs.
If they arrived at SigID from a search result, email, or bookmark, have them go back to the app and start again there.
After they sign in, confirm SigID sends them back to the app.
-->

1. Open the app, dashboard, or workspace you want to use.
2. Click its sign-in, dashboard, or account button.
3. The app sends you to SigID.
4. SigID asks you to prove the account is yours.
5. After sign-in, SigID sends you back to the app.

If you arrived at SigID from a search result, email, or bookmark, go back to the
app first and start again there.

## Choose A Sign-In Method

<!-- agent:action Pick a sign-in method
Ask which methods the SigID page offers, then choose in this order: passkey if the browser, device, or password manager offers a saved one (unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, device PIN, security key, or password manager); magic link if the user can open email for the account (open the newest email and continue in the same browser if possible); email and password if the app allows it and the user knows the password; then complete any MFA or fresh verification step shown.
The user performs the unlock, email click, or typing themselves.
Verify before moving on: the user entered the correct account email for this app.
If the chosen method fails, fall back to the next available method rather than retrying repeatedly.
-->

Use the method that is available on the page:

| Method | Use it when | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Passkey | Your browser, device, or password manager offers a saved passkey. | Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, device PIN, security key, or password manager. |
| Magic link | You can open email for the account. | Request a link, open the newest email, and continue in the same browser if possible. |
| Email and password | The app allows password login and you know the password. | Enter the account email and password, then complete any extra check. |
| MFA or fresh verification | SigID asks for a stronger proof before continuing. | Complete the extra step shown on the page. |

## Fix The Problem You See

<!-- agent:action Troubleshoot the symptom
Ask the user to describe exactly what their screen shows, then apply the matching row of the table: unrecognized app or workspace name means close and restart from a trusted app; a missing magic-link email means check the address, spam folder, and newest email, then request a new link only once and use the newest one; an expired link means request a fresh one and never reuse old emails; a missing passkey means try the browser, device, or password manager where it was created; a rejected password means check the email first, then use password reset; failed MFA means use a backup method or Account Recovery; looping back to sign-in means restart from the app and keep the callback in the same browser; signed in but not returned means refresh the app, then contact the app support team.
Verify before moving on: the symptom is actually resolved, not just retried.
If someone asked the user to forward a code, recovery link, magic link, or security prompt, tell them to stop; those stay private.
-->

Start with the symptom that matches your screen.

| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| You do not recognize the app or workspace name | Close the page and start again from the app you trust. |
| Magic link email does not arrive | Check the email address, spam folder, and newest email. Request a new link only once, then use the newest link. |
| Magic link says it expired | Return to the sign-in page and request a new link. Do not reuse old emails. |
| Passkey does not appear | Try the browser, device, or password manager where you created the passkey. |
| You changed phones or computers | Try your old device if you still have it, then use another sign-in method or [Account Recovery](recovery.md). |
| Password is rejected | Check the email address first, then use password reset or recovery from the same sign-in screen. |
| MFA or fresh verification fails | Use a backup method if shown. If none is available, use [Account Recovery](recovery.md). |
| You keep returning to the sign-in page | Start from the original app again and avoid opening the callback in a different browser. |
| You signed in but did not return to the app | Go back to the app and refresh. If it still fails, contact the app support team. |

Stop if someone asks you to forward a code, recovery link, magic link, or
security prompt. Those should stay private.

## Fresh Verification

<!-- agent:action Complete fresh verification
If SigID asks the user to verify again mid-session, reassure them this does not always mean they were signed out; the app is usually protecting a sensitive action such as opening a dashboard, changing security settings, or managing payment or workspace access.
Have the user complete the verification method shown on the page themselves, then continue back to the app.
Verify before moving on: the prompt corresponds to an action the user just started; if it appeared unprompted, have them close it and restart from the app.
-->

Sometimes SigID may ask you to verify again even if you already signed in. This
does not always mean you were signed out. It usually means the app is protecting
a sensitive action, such as opening a dashboard, changing security settings, or
managing payment or workspace access.

Complete the verification method shown on the page, then continue back to the
app.
